SafeParish

SafeParish is a national child protection program in the Catholic Church.  The SafeParish training enables adults working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults to identify and quickly react to potential threats to child safety, suspicions of child abuse, and most importantly, stop any potential abuse before it happens.

All volunteers who work with children in any capacity under the auspices of the Church, be it part of youth ministry or any other Church organization, as well as all employees and clerics, must be trained in the SafeParish program, undergo a background check which updates quarterly, and complete continuing educational training every quarter in the SafeParish program.

If you are interested in getting involved in one of our ministries serving children and youth, contact PJ Ehling to see where your gifts and talents may be of best impact in the parish.  Registration in the SafeParish program has become very streamlined, with all training completed online.  If you are a member of an organization that works with youth or children in the parish, even if only occasionally, please contact PJ Ehling for more information regarding the SafeParish training.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati's child protection program began in 1993.  In 2014, our child protection program adopted VIRTUS as its mode of training, with background checks through selection.com.  In 2021, our child protection program adopted SafeParish as its mode of training.  You can access the SafeParish website at www.aocsafeenvironment.org, and the Archdiocese's Safe Environment Office website here.
